10th Annual Alcohol Symposium – October 25th-28th, 2009 – Melbourne, Australia

The Traffic Injury Research Foundation (TIRF) is pleased to announce that is has been contracted to organize and convene the 10th International Alcohol Interlock Symposium in cooperation with VicRoads. Sponsorship for this event is provided by the International Council on Alcohol, Drugs and Traffic Safety (ICADTS) and the Transport Industry Safety Group (TISG).

Taking place October 25th - 28th, 2009 in Melbourne, Australia, the theme of the Symposium is knowledge transfer and taking research to practice. Morning panels will focus on implementation issues with afternoon workshops on policy, technology and standards to encourage discussion and problem-solving to improve implementation. Other topics on the agenda include the application of alcohol interlocks to first offenders, the use of indigent funding, and worldwide trends.

The Symposium’s goal is to improve the delivery of interlock programs by sharing experiences and exploring the different ways that jurisdictions have implemented interlock programs, the challenges that have been encountered, and the progress that has been made.

The agenda will also include a special workshop designed to meet the needs of interested professionals with varying knowledge about alcohol interlocks so newcomers are welcome! An exhibition for vendors and a range of leisure activities are offered in conjunction with the event to facilitate networking and dialogue among attendees.
More information about the Symposium agenda is posted online and will be updated in the coming weeks at www.interlocksymposium.com.
