The Board of Directors and the President & Chief Executive Officer of the Traffic Injury Research Foundation (TIRF) are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ward Vanlaar to the role of Vice President Research, effective March 1st, 2010.
Ward joined TIRF as a Research Associate in 2005 from the Belgian Road Safety Institute where he was the Head of Research in the Policy and Behaviour Department. He was promoted to Research Scientist in 2008, and in 2009, he received his Ph.D. in Transportation Science from Hasselt University in Belgium. As both a statistician and criminologist, Ward has brought a unique set of quantitative and methodological skills to TIRF.
Over the past four years, Ward has taken on growing responsibilities in proposal development, project management, procurement of funding, and mentoring of young scientists to encourage their skill development. He has led evaluations, become adept at complex statistical analyses and programming, and been involved in program development and knowledge transfer initiatives. He has made a significant contribution to the organization and achieved growing recognition for his knowledge and expertise among researchers, practitioners, and policymakers representing a range of disciplines in traffic safety.
Members of the TIRF Board and his colleagues at TIRF extend their sincere congratulations to Ward and look forward to his continued success. Congratulations Ward!
