Our Road Safety Agenda & Areas of Expertise
The overwhelming majority of deaths and injuries on our roads are preventable. TIRF’s projects take action on four fronts: research on road crashes; program and policy development; evaluation; and, knowledge transfer and exchange. Our Research Agenda prioritizes important topics requiring research and action, and TIRF works with transportation, health, and criminal justice practitioners to help them use research and accelerate real world change.
TIRF’s global projects underscore the value of tailoring research, policies, and programs to the local context and environment of road users. An extensive understanding of cultural and legal factors shaping decision-making and strategies to reduce road crashes is essential. In 2013, Traffic Injury Research Foundation (TIRF) USA, Inc. was founded as a separate, independent 501(c)3 private charity to better meet the needs of the local funders, stakeholders, and partners.
