Picture this: You’re hitting the open road this summer, being a present driver and all of a sudden there’s an animal in front of you.
Did you know that swerving, honking your horn or flashing your lights could make the situation worse?
While these may be understandable reactions when you’re caught off guard, there are better ways to handle this situation. Over 45,000 Canadians each year have motor vehicle collisions with animals. You don’t have to be one of them.
That’s why Desjardins partnered with the Traffic Injury Research Foundation to share some simple tips to stay safe on the road.
Safe driving starts with:
- Watching for wildlife signs
- Going slow during dusk and dawn, when animals are most active
- Staying alert and being aware of your surroundings
