The effectiveness of lower BAC limits

The selection of an alcohol limit for drivers continues to be a contentious and inherently political issue. Many countries around the world have lowered, or are considering lowering, the BAC limit. In Canada, the House of Commons Standing Committee on Justice and Human rights considered changes to Federal impaired driving legislation, including a reduction in the BAC limit from 80 mg% to 50 mg%. In preparation for our testimony before the Committee, TIRF gave before the Committee, a critical review of the scientific literature on the traffic safety impact of lower BAC limits was conducted.
